What is an Exercise Physiologist?

Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEP) are tertiary qualified allied health professionals that have the skill set and competencies to prescribe clinical exercise interventions in a safe and effective manner. They have the knowledge and scope to work with a wide range of clients from those looking to improve general health and wellbeing, through injury rehabilitation and those living with chronic conditions.

How does Exercise Physiology differ from Physiotherapy?

Whilst both Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) and Physiotherapists are tertiary qualified allied health professionals, they service their clients through different means. Physiotherapists deliver health interventions through passive treatments such as massage and dry needling, whereas AEPs deliver health interventions through active (hands-off) treatments using clinically prescribed exercises.

How does an Accredited Exercise Physiologist differ from other types of allied health and exercise professionals?

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist has been through a minimum 4 year tertiary degree, giving us the knowledge and skills to work with both healthy and clinical populations. We follow strict accreditation and professional development requirements.

Can I claim my Exercise Physiology sessions on private health insurance?

Yes, Exercise Physiology sessions can be claimed with certain health funds. Make sure to check your individual policy for details.

What does an initial consult look like?

All clients coming into the Movement Synergy Studio start with an initial consult. We get the chance to sit down and have a chat about your previous injuries/medical history, your goals and how we can best support you in achieving them. We start with base line testing including gait assessment, flexibility and mobility testing, muscle activation & motor patterning, body mechanics.

 

From there we work out the best plan moving forwards to help you achieve your goals.

Do I need a referral to make an appointment?

No, you do not need a referral to make an appointment.

What should I wear or bring to my sessions?

We ask for you to bring a gym towel/water and wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move in.

What do I do if I am feeling sick or have tested positive for COVID-19?

If you are feeling unwell or have tested positive to Covid-19 please contact the studio ASAP to reschedule your appointment.

How does Movement Synergy follow COVID-safe protocols?

Movement Synergy always prioritises the health and safety of our clients and staff. In addition to following current government recommended guidelines we continue to keep the clinic clean between clients, wear appropriate PPE, have hand sanitiser readily available and offer Telehealth appointments for those who either are unable to come into the studio or would just prefer to work from the comforts of home.

I'm a dancer but I have no injuries, is it still beneficial to see an Exercise Physiologist?

Definitely yes! Exercise Physiology is highly beneficial for injury prevention, working on strengthening your base foundation to stop you from ever getting an injury in the first place. Having an individually prescribed exercise program can assist greatly in helping you achieve your goals in dance.
