So you have made the decision to focus on your health and wellbeing. You want to start incorporating exercise into your routine and follow a few fitness pages on social media for inspiration. It’s a little overwhelming, there are different opinions that don’t all agree on the same thing! You end up stuck and are unsure what you should do next.
Movement Synergy can help!
Exercise and movement doesn’t need to be hard! I can certainly understand how overwhelming it can be to start something new and unknown. It’s can be daunting and scary. Here are 5 tips to ensure you build a healthy and sustainable relationship with exercise and movement.
Find Movement That You Enjoy
It could be swimming, walking the dog, a social dance class, hiking or cycling. There are a heap of different options out there! Remember it doesn’t have to be set in a conventional gym environment. Exercise and movement is as individual as the person doing it, so find something that you enjoy. It will make it easier to stay consistent if it's something that you are looking forward to!
Baby Steps
Rome wasn’t built in a day. You can’t expect to go from never running to running 10km in a week. Small consistent steps help to build routine. Once you have a routine you have a habit and the next thing you know your running a marathon!
Be Kind to Yourself
Sometimes life doesn’t go to plan and that is perfectly okay! It is alright to have an off day and not feel like exercising. Movement can change and adapt - don’t feel like going to the gym but want to move your body because you’ve been behind a desk all day. You might want to add in a walk outside, a stretch and mobility routine at home or a warm bath with epsom salts.
Accountability
Sticking to a routine is always easier with a community and support group around you. Join a local exercise class, walk with a friend, tracking your progress in a journal.
